Policy and Advocacy Manager: 12-month contract opportunity

Tags:

The Online Safety Act Network has an exciting opportunity for a policy and advocacy expert to join us to boost our impact and extend our influence over the next year.

The Network works with civil society organisations, campaigners and academics with an interest in the effective implementation of the Online Safety Act (OSA), providing insight, advice and extra capacity to help their work, liaising with Ofcom and Government Departments to influence regulatory and policy developments and working directly with Parliamentarians with an interest in this agenda on a cross-party basis.

Over the past 18 months, since the OSA received Royal Assent, our Network has expanded to over 70 organisations and individuals, our influence has grown and our role knitting together shared interests across different areas of harm - from child protection through fraud and scams to violence against women and girls and online abuse - has become even more important.

We’ve got so much more that we want to do, including shaping the next phase of online safety policy development and building consensus around what that might deliver. To help us achieve this, we are looking for an experienced policy and advocacy expert to support our Director and expert legal adviser at the heart of the Network.

We are looking for someone with demonstrable experience in the following areas:

  • Policy research and analysis, and the ability to translate complex evidence and insights into the most appropriate form (including consultation responses, briefing products, blogs posts, etc). Knowledge of current UK tech policy and/or digital regulation is desirable.
  • Parliamentary advocacy, including providing written and oral briefing for MPs and Peers, drafting Select Committee responses and horizon scanning for potential interventions
  • Stakeholder engagement and collaborative working, for example bringing together diverse groups to deliver a shared aim and building trusted relationships across experts in different fields.
  • In-depth understanding of how Government, Parliament and the digital regulation landscape works and where civil society can best make an impact.
  • Effective time management and work-load prioritisation abilities, along with a willingness to assist on administrative and operational tasks to support the running of the Network, as required.

Contract terms:

  • A fixed-term contract for a maximum of twelve months is available for a suitable candidate with 3-5 years relevant experience.
  • Hybrid role, with regular meetings in central London.

Interested?

  • Please send your CV plus a short note (1 side of A4 max) highlighting your experience and why you are interested in this opportunity to hello@onlinesafetyact.net by noon on Friday 6 June.
